Ammonium acetate is a white, crystalline solid with the chemical formula CH₃COONH₄. It is the ammonium salt of acetic acid and is commonly used in: • Biochemistry and molecular biology: As a buffer or reagent in protein and DNA purification. • Pharmaceuticals: Occasionally used in solutions as a systemic alkalizer or diuretic. • Industrial applications: Including as a biodegradable de-icing agent and catalyst. It is highly soluble in water, and when heated, it decomposes into acetic acid and ammonia.
